Ya so for a full achilles tendon rupture for the recovery process it was 4 weeks non weight bearing, then heel lifts in boot with crutches for another 4 weeks, then just the boot. Rehab started with basic learning to walk again and balance. Once that progressed we did hydrotherapy which is an underwater treadmill, and then anti gravity treadmill work. Lots of mobility and strengthening to try to get the atrophied calf some muscle back. Once we had a couple months of that, we started adding light plyometrics. It’s just been a light progression to running and each week trying to add more intensity, now at 8 months we’re closer to being back doing as much strengthening full lifting and extra isometrics for tendon strengthening. And we’re just trying to keep adding intensity and more volume at the moment and trying to get back to event specific training! Still need to get through the 12 months time period the surgeon said we need to get through.
What’s been great is I’ve been using my HAMMER products quite religiously since the injury. Recoverite has been a product I use after every pt and lifting session. It’s been great because it’s helped my body recover better and get more quality sessions during the week. The Tissue Rejuvenator has also been one key in this rehab process, I take it every day. Another thing which has been great now that training has ramped up is Endurolytes Extreme. I use these every day and Hammer Gel when I have big running days where I lose a bit more sweat. I take the Premium Insurance caps every day as well which have been great just knowing my body is getting all the essential minerals. And after lifting sessions I use the HAMMER Whey Protein Powder to help rebuild my body after hard lifting sessions!
A couple goals that I have right now is to compete at the USA outdoor championships this August 2nd-3rd and it will be over 12 months since the rupture and I’m pushing myself to see if I can get myself back to be able to compete by the end of the summer! That’s the first big goal if my body will let me! Then it’s to try to make the USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the future. I want to compete at the Thorp Cup and represent Team USA, maybe see if I could do a pan American Games. And the ultimate goal is to compete in LA 2028 at the Olympics fueled by Hammer!
