Brian Frank

FOUNDER & ENDURANCE ATHLETE
HAMMERING SINCE 1987

Brian Frank, founder and owner of Hammer Nutrition, is a pioneer in endurance fueling and supplementation. A lifelong athlete, Brian grew up riding bikes, skateboards, and motorcycles every day in Southern California. That led to BMX and motocross racing from age 5. By high school, he had dreams of racing pro motocross, and began swimming and playing water polo as cross training at Wilson High School in Long Beach. It allowed for 4–5 hours a day of intense cardio and got him out of 7th period! This fitness allowed him to race multiple times per week, in multiple classes. In addition to training and racing, he worked multiple jobs to fund his racing, including babysitting, school janitor assistant, summer programs, construction, jackhammer demolition, installing insulation, and more.

In 1982, a knee injury and multiple surgeries led him to road cycling for rehabilitation, which turned into his second sport of choice. He recognized and personally struggled with the critical gap in sports nutrition for endurance athletes. Drawing on his deep knowledge of supplementation and fueling gained as a lifelong athlete with granola parents, Brian launched E-Caps, which later evolved into Hammer Nutrition. He introduced high dose CoQ10 and pure ATP to US athletes, along with a host of micronutrient based supplements specifically designed for high volume training endurance athletes. In 1991, he co-developed Sustained Energy (Originally Energy Surge) with Dr. Bill Misner, creating the first endurance fuel to incorporate complex carbohydrates, protein, and key nutrients to support fat metabolism. He later formulated Hammer Gel, eliminating refined sugars and citric acid to provide a more effective energy source. Perpetuem, Recoverite, HEED, PHOOD and many more products followed over the next decades and still continue today.
