NEW 'GO FAR' BOOK FOR ENDURANCE ATHLETES OUT NOW

BY ENDURANCE NEWS STAFF

We’re very happy to have a new book come across our radar, this time from the runner, swimmer, and author Jennifer Strong McConachie on how training and exploring as an endurance athlete has helped her overcome challenges and see new windows into the world.

Jennifer’s new book, Go Far: How Endurance Sports Help You Win At Life, is an inspiring look at endurance sports and how we can use the principles behind them to influence our personal and professional lives. She has raced on five of seven continents, swam the towering swells of the Hellespont from Europe to Asia, braved the fast currents and shark-infested Pacific waters of the infamous Escape from Alcatraz swim, summited the tallest peaks on several continents, and conquered the great American epic of running across the Grand Canyon and back again, all fueled by Hammer Nutrition!

“I have been a long-time user of a variety of your products, such as my Hammer bottle filled with Fizz! My dad introduced me to them back in your early days and they have fueled all of my endurance feats” - Jennifer Strong McConachie

Here is a snippet from the introduction of Go Far:

Namibia, Africa

I am in the oldest desert in the world, preparing to climb up one of the highest sand dunes on record. It is mid-morning on the final day of a five-day desert stage race. The sand is deep orange, ancient. I run across the veld approaching the pile of massive dunes that must be summited before the race is complete. I have already covered 108 miles, running for six, seven, eight hours a day in 120-degree temperatures.

A few months ago, I didn’t even know there was a county called Namibia. Today I am surrounded by its vastness. I am on the other side of the world somewhere in the back of beyond. I approach the sandy foothill and climb—fingers and feet swooshing deep into the ruddy sand. It is so steep that near the top, I crawl on all fours. I am one with the earth. I am connected with my body and my soul to nature in her most basic element. I tell myself, this is what it means to be alive.

Go Far features Jennifer’s own personal adventures as a lifelong multisport athlete and also serves as a guide on how to apply an endurance athlete’s mindset to help others. The book provides a sequence of pillars to guide readers as they embrace some of the most difficult physical challenges the body can endure, all by cultivating a mental fortitude focused on the curiosity of adventure, whether atop the ancient sand dunes of Namibia or the wide and shallow sandbanks of the Arkansas River on the High Plains.
